A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to keep. On the next request the browser sends it back, which is how a site can tell that the person loading a page is the same person who signed in a moment ago. We also use closely related browser storage — localStorage and sessionStorage — and this policy covers those in exactly the same way.
This policy covers thewchat.com and the TheWChat web workspace. Our Windows, Android, iOS and macOS apps do not use browser cookies; they authenticate with short-lived tokens held in the operating system’s secure storage.
Three categories, and only the first is switched on before you choose:
Sign-in sessions, form security and bot protection. These are exempt from consent because the service cannot work without them — you could not log in.
Our support chat. It runs on our own infrastructure under the same company, so it is part of the service rather than a third-party tool.
We currently run no analytics cookies at all. The switch exists so your preference is already on record if we ever add aggregate usage measurement.

reCAPTCHA is provided by Google and governed by Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. We use it purely as an abuse control, never to profile you.
One service sits in this category: the AssistTheWchat support chat in the corner of the page. It stores your conversation reference so a reply doesn’t vanish when you navigate, and remembers whether you had the panel open.
It is worth being precise about who runs it: assist.thewchat.com is ours — the same company, on the same infrastructure as this site. Nothing you type into it is handed to an outside vendor, and it carries no advertising or analytics payload. Because it is first-party functionality rather than third-party tracking, it loads as part of the service.

TheWChat sets no analytics, advertising, profiling or cross-site tracking cookies.
There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel, no data broker and no third-party ad network on this site. We do not sell or share personal data for advertising, and your workspace content — messages, calls and files — is never used to build a marketing profile.
Should that ever change we will add the detail to the table above, bump the consent version so the panel re-appears, and ask again before anything loads.
Once you are signed in, the chat application keeps a small amount of data in your browser’s local storage so the app is usable: your access token, the draft messages you have typed but not sent, and an offline outbox that re-sends messages after a dropped connection. This is strictly necessary to operate the product you asked for, stays on your device, and is cleared when you sign out.
Every workspace is tenant-isolated — nothing stored for one organisation is readable by another. See the Privacy Policy for how workspace data itself is handled.
